Look Good, Lift Good

“Look good, lift good.”  A quote commonly used by decorated US weightlifter John North. The statement refers to physical appearance having positive impact on performance. But is there any truth behind this?

As far as the research goes, there are no known studies on this topic.  The closest parallel that could be drawn is based on the theorized inverted U curve of anxiety and performance.  Research identified this curve correlated both very high levels of anxiety & very low levels of anxiety with decreased performance.  The highest levels performance was found somewhere in the middle.  Article: (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/1623887/)

Could looking good in your favorite bacon themed socks help boost confidence and optimize anxiety levels?? Who knows, but it’s worth a try!
