Common Exercises for Sciatica

Sciatica Drills

***Disclaimer: If you have radiating pain down the leg....do yourself a favor and get it checked out by a professional! Don’t try to navigate this condition on your own!

Sciatica can happen for many different reasons. Each person’s treatment will look different!

That is why a proper evaluation by a PT is the BEST course of action for an efficient and effective recovery.

The use of exercises/ stretches are only part of the treatment plan. Hands on PT and activity modification can make a big difference in recovery too!

Prone on elbows (cobra) exercise is a classic one for sciatica symptoms. Many people find relief with this position. It is theorized to work by providing relief to the area of the sciatic nerve at it’s source.

Pigeon Stretch: This stretches the posterior hip and piriformis muscle. Sometimes the sciatic nerve can get pinched by the piriformis, causing radiating symptoms in the leg. This is another classic stretch to help alleviate symptoms.

Nerve Floss: This is theorized to work by gliding/ sliding the sciatic nerve within the leg to help desensitize it. Another very common technique for sciatica.
